Title: Help with ID
Post by: ALSto on December 22, 2008, 09:05:02 AM
Hi All;

I have not been able to put a species to this little guy. Maybe a juvenile with no colours yet?. Sorry for the quality of the pictures.

Taken in August 2008 at Walker's Woodland in the Uxbridge area.

Thanks for any help is appreciated as I am currently updating my checklist for this year.

I'm no help at all! Somehow it looks as if it's a very recent fledgling. The mouth area back of the bill looks very large, as though it's still at the stage of being fed. If it's a fledgling I'm guessing its plumage and its adult bill size are not yet in evidence so heck, I can tell you nothing helpful. Neat pics though.

Hi Julie;

That's what I was figuring... I guess I will leave it in the Unknown category for now till I spot another with an adult next summer! :)

My first impression is fledgling House Wren.  The bill looks right for a wren and the plain colouration suggests House Wren.

Ditto on juvenile wren IMO.

Thanks Greg & Iain. I am in agreement as the head & bill shapes do compare to other reference photos. Just need to get a direction to look in! ;)

God knows I'm the last one to be assisting in ID....but umm...how about some kind of flycatcher? I'm just looking at the eyes... Or should I just stop smoking crack?
