Title: Presqu'ile - December 25th
Post by: qmnonic on December 29, 2008, 10:20:09 AM
Went for a quick walk the afternoon of the 25th on Gull Island in Presqu'ile Provincial Park.

Saw a number of waterfowl, but they were (rightly) very skittish, so it was tough to identify anything but oldsquaw, canada goose and a pair of swan (will identify later from photos).

Found what looks like a recent white winged scooter carcass.  Tracks that likely belong to a coyote.

50+ snow buntings.
2 lapland longspurs.
2 what I think were fox sparrow - still identifying.

While driving out of the park, saw a great horned owl sitting in the tree just west of the bird sightings board.

For more information and directions on how to get to Presqu'ile, see the Friends of Presquile (http://www.friendsofpresquile.on.ca/park.htm) website.  Presquile is in Brighton Ontario.
