Title: Harlequin Duck near Sam Smith Park on Saturday
Post by: Brian Bailey on January 04, 2009, 10:15:08 PM
I led a remarkably birdless "birdwalk" at Sam Smith Park on Saturday morning.  (In two hours we saw only 3 passerines.)  Waterfowl numbers were low as well, but the single bird of note was a Male Harlequin Duck.  He was several hundred metres off the east side, and spent more time under the water than on the surface.  I haven't read any reports of them lately, but I'm assuming this is one of the ones that have been hanging around Humber Bay this winter.

When I returned home, I had a message that there were White-winged Crossbills on the east side of the park, so I went back out and found much more action as posted on the Photo Page (http://outdoorontario.net/birds/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=2382).
