The King Eider was preening close to shore this morning at Sam Smith. I captured a few before he went hunting in deeper waters.

Wow! Not sure I would have even guessed this was an eider as I have never seen one before. Fabulous shots, right down to the detail in the water drops during the preen. Thanks!!!

Hey Iain, nice shots.
I'm pretty sure I was talking to you about your extender around the time we were shooting, figured I'd post one of mine for comparison and introduce myself :D I can clearly see the advantage of shooting from down low as you were, it makes for a much nicer background, will keep that in mind for next time.

Nice shots of a great bird.

Great capture, nice how you got down at eye level.

Outstanding. I hope he's still there tomorrow.

I have to agree with everyone. A great find and great pics. Very cool to see the water droplets in the air.

Great pix!
Hopefully he'll still be there this Saturday. I'm hoping to visit and see what's around. This will also be Day Two of my 4 day GBBC adventure! Can't wait for it to start this Friday ... Yippee! :D
Last visit to Sam Smith on Dec. 30th/08, saw a Snowy Owl plus a Northern Shrike.
