Title: Lakeshore: Coronation Park to Humber Bay Park East, Feb 14
Post by: Andreas Jonsson on February 14, 2009, 10:34:01 PM
A few hours spent this afternoon along the lakeshore from Coronation Park to Humber Bay Park East yielded a few good sightings but mainly the usual wintering waterfowl. The ice is melting and so birds are generally found closer to shore now, providing great views.

At the Sunnyside Pavillion:

Peregrine falcon (perched on the pier)
White-singed scooter (2)

At Humber Bay Park East:

Trumpeter swans (6 marked)
White-winged scooters (2)
Horned grebe (1) -- thanks to the friendly birder who pointed it out to me

At Humber Bay Park East I also noted one Beaver swimming past, and I got a quick look at a group of 10 or so sparrows, what looked to be White-crowned sparrows, but I'm thinking they must have been Whited-throated, cause I don't believe such large numbers of White-crowned would be wintering here. Any feedback on this would be welcome. Correction: As embarrassing as it may be I need to confess that I just realized that these sparrows were American tree sparrows
