Title: Coyotes
Post by: Axeman on February 17, 2009, 10:16:24 AM
I spent Valentines Day alone this year -- my wife and daughter were on a Girls Only Vacation with my sister and mother in Brazil....so I indulged in a nice long quiet soak in my hot tub which is outdoors...I like to sit in it sometimes without turning jets on so I can enjoy the surrounding nature....anyway, at twilight, while I was soaking, I heard a strange choked bark followed by about 30 seconds of silence and then an incredible chorus of howling...there were 3 to 4 coyotes providing long plaintive background wails and 1 or 2 coyotes belting out a yelping melody...it lasted for a few minutes and faded with the darkness...the next day I went for a hike up on the ridge behind my deck and found canine tracks....lots of them...we have a lot of coyotes where I live although I have never seen one around my home...I seem to only see them in the GTA.

Unfortnately my wife does not get the same thrill I do when I hear them so...I had no one to share with...but I have to say, it was THRILLING...
