Title: Red winged black birds
Post by: Napper on March 05, 2009, 06:27:55 PM
Hey !!

At lunch today I was hearing the sound of a  Red winged black bird. Adjacent the tracks Downsview park (near that new construction site)

If it was a mimic it was a good one. I am pretty sure it was a red wing.

Napper :D

I haven't seen a Mocker up there yet but there are lots of  Starlings..

Had my first one of the year today (March 6) at the backyard feeder (Etobicoke, near Humber marshes). Also spotted a N. Mockingbird while out for a run

Hey!!  robgilroy

I read a  thread today on another site.. The nice lady said she had Grackles at her feeders  South Lake Simcoe.

I dunno how accurate that is...    http://www.b2g4.com/boards/board.cgi?&u ... atureBoard (http://www.b2g4.com/boards/board.cgi?&user=SimcoeNatureBoard)

My Feeders are only busy from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. Then all quiet. Mostly Am Goldfinches.  Lets see what Saturday brings..

Spring  migration hopefully.

I haven't seen/heard any yet but there have been a lot of geese coming north over the past few days.  I also heard a number of Blue Jays when I was at a park near the Bluffs.

They're back!!!

Out for a nature walk this afternoon, could hear the trilling, looked up into the trees ... 10 male Red-winged Blackbirds.  Won't be much longer before they're diving bombing people, dogs, squirrels, etc.

I had 4 RWBB in the yard on Tuesday, and I saw 3 Grackles fly over head on Thursday. I know spring is right around the corner, but it sure doesn't feel like it today.  :(

I almost forgot the single Robin I saw on Wednesday.

I spotted all in the north-end of Whitby.

Title: Oakbank Pond RWB's
Post by: Howieh on March 27, 2009, 09:53:03 PM
If you want to see red winged blackbirds Oakbank pond (Center St. between Yonge and Bathurst in Thornhill) is a great spot. Also lots of gulls, nesting Canada Geese and mallards already there but still no wood ducks (I will report if and when they show up). There's also a great blue heron who hangs around most of the time and lots of turtles which are probably still waiting for the water to warm up before they appear.
