Title: Bluffs Flight and Fancy
Post by: Anonymous on March 07, 2009, 04:13:59 PM
Thought I'd share some photos from today.  With the weather warming up the numbers of over wintering birds is decreasing.  There were only 4 redheads in the lagoon with a few scattered buffleheads and a lone scaup.  Out in the lake are common mergansers and long tails, although the numbers are definitely down.  All of these were sighted on the Western beaches as the eastern beaches still aren't accessible by car.  The entire yacht club marina is still frozen over.

No sign of the harlequins yet either.

Thanks Colin, appreciate the comment.

I was down there today and that's why the shots appear dark and a little drab.  I found a nice comfortable spot on the rocks at the entrance to the lagoon and kept an eye on the water for whatever was flying into the lagoon.  There were a couple of nice formations that came in while I was shooting other birds which didn't mind my presence on the rocks and so I missed a few.  But hey, helps for next time maybe.  :D

Well cheers to you then cause your shots are amazing being out there today good for you, I love that spot I like the idea of trying to locate yourself in the ideal position to get the shots, I like the way you think , I was fortunate to be there last week when we had all the sun a blue sky so was able to get a few good duck shots, my favorites are the Buffleheads if the lighting is right you can catch them skimming the water lol!
