Colin, I was shooting w/ a 300mm Canon lens.  Were you the gentleman walking with his friend when we crossed paths?

Nice shots. I really like the mergansers in flight.  Also, I've never seen an owl with a skinny tail and second pair of legs before  . Did you watch the owl catch the muskrat, or did it already have it?

Guess it wasn't Colin.

Mark, thanks for the comments.  I was thinking of renaming the bird a Great Horned Musky Owl, but the Smithsonian denied the application.     The owl had the muskrat when I arrived on the scene, but I do know that there were other members of this forum who were present just a bit before I was.  I'd love to hear if the bird had the owl as well or if it picked it off in the middle of the day.

Anyone?

Attila

Just received an email with regards to the type of Great Horned it is:  Snyder's Great Horned Owl.  More information on it can be found at this link: http://www.jeaniron.ca/Owls/torontoghowls.htm (http://www.jeaniron.ca/Owls/torontoghowls.htm)
