Out back on the stream in the meadow here in the south of Barrie, we have just seen a "very dark" brown duck swimming around with the other mallards. It looks a lot like the mallards, but is dark dark brown and with a very bright white chest area. That' the part that caught our attention. I don't see it in any of my birding books. Paul

I believe I saw a picture of this bird, or one like it, on another bird board. (somewhere north of the K-W, Guelph area) Someone said that British birders call these birds a "Mallard Yuck" as they are usually a cross between a mallard and a domestic white duck. :-)
