Title: Junco call
Post by: Napper on March 30, 2009, 06:51:48 PM
hey!!

Just now I was outside getting some fresh air..

Besides the Cardinal booming "Birdy birdy birdy". There was a strange call happening.. It sounded like a mixed up Song Sparrow..

After looking all over the back fence I spot a Dark Eyed Junco.

Sounded sorta like this  chip,, twitter http://www.naturesongs.com/deju2.wav  but only once

and  then this

 http://www.naturesongs.com/deju5.wav

all in one call.

Cool! I have never heard them make anything other than there winter  standard trill or twitter..

Napper:)

spring song..

This Summer when you are up in Tiny Township go into one of those many pine plantations. DE Juncos do breed there in small numbers and they are quite vocal during breeding season.

We've had 20-30 Juncos in the cedars all winter long and they make quite a racket during the day but now that spring is here I've also noticed that they are getting very aggressive/territorial and their call has changed.  I should go out and make some recordings.

Any idea if or when they will move north?  I seem to have already lost my chickadees...   :(

Tom.
