I had the great good fortune to come upon this female pileated woodpecker working away on a stump while walking round the Don Valley Golf Course by Yonge Street and the 401. I found her at the west side (there is a pond just there) at the fringe of the trees at the base of the hill.
In the same moment, I also saw a Northern Flicker and a Downy woodpecker. I didn't know which way to point my camera for a moment, and got a bit over excited and spoiled the focus a little. Nonetheless, a good day for me - the first time I have had a solid view of this wonderful bird.

We have piliated woodpeckers living in the woodlot we back on to and every year we see them maybe 3-4 times (hear them more often). They have come to our feeders a few times too. I am still always in awe of them. Great pictures by the way!
