Title: Henslow's Sparrow?
Post by: MikeIrwin on April 17, 2009, 09:30:07 PM
Hello everyone,
I took this shot today out at Point Pelee, and believe it to be a Henslow's Sparrow, could someone please confirm or correct?

Thanks in advance,

Looking in my Sibley's, the Henslow has short dark lateral throat-stripes and a white eye-ring, which I don't see here.

This bird here does have pale grayish lores and auriculars and a white median crown-stripe, which would match a Le Conte's sparrow better.

Either way, it's a pretty good bird to get. Nice pic too.

Thanks for the response, that also would explain the spots on the nape. If anyone is out at Pelee today and thinks of it, please feel free to correct the sighting's book where I wrote it down as Henslow's.

Thanks in advance,
Mike
