Title: Black crowned night heron - Don River April 30
Post by: mr.sharp-photo on April 30, 2009, 11:58:38 AM
Just got back from a jog and I managed to spot a black crowned night heron sitting in a tree, watching the Don River.

It looked quite content, so keep an eye on it if you're in the area today.

Go south of the Pottery Rd bridge on the Don River pathway.
there's a sign that's for Paddle the Don - for Portage #3.
the heron was in a tree about 15-20 feet above the river, on the west side of the river. not easy to spot from the trail.

the heron equation for the Don River seems pretty simple:

cloudy day + portage = chance of seeing the black crowned night heron.

good luck!
