Hi everyone I have just noticed this bird at my feeder yesterday. It is about the size of a robin but is all black with a band of yellow on the wings and somewhere there is some red possibly on the inside of the wings that appears only when it flies. I have checked this site and a few other websites but have had not luck with seeing a picture of this bird. Thanks :)

Hi Leaa. Welcome to the forum.
Sounds like a male Red-winged Blackbird. Don't let his innocent face fool you! I've been pecked in the back of the head a few times by these guys.
The following pix are from Google Images.

Thanks Jo-anne! There are some many types of "black" birds I find it hard to distinguish them at times from a distance. Back several months ago I came across a site accidently that showed pictures of various birds and also a small audio clip of the song/chirp of the bird. But I have been unable to find this site. But I have found this site which I am very happy to have found especially since its for this region. :D

Two Web sites I use for identifying birds are:
What Bird http://www.whatbird.com
Cornell's All about birds http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/browse.aspx
Both have searchable databases and the results include sound clips.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Bernie
