Title: Toronto Islands migration - May 13th
Post by: Anonymous on May 13, 2009, 06:34:42 PM
Good day

Gunner Bessel,  Margaret Liubavicius and I birded The Islands on another nice morning and though there were not a large number of birds down there we did find some nice ones including 20 Warbler species.

As usual, following are some of the birds we did find.

Canvasbacks, Cooper's Hawks, Common Loons ( overhead ), Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Kingfishers, Least and Great Crested Flycatchers, E. Phoebes, E. Kingbirds, Blue-headed, Red-eyed and Warbling Vireos, many Cedar Waxwings, Veerys, Swainson's, Hermit and Wood Thrushes, Brown Thrashers, House and Winter Wrens, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, Purple Martins, Rough-winged and Cliff Swallows, Blue-winged, Tennessee, Orange-crowned, Blackburnian, Palm, Wilson's and Canada Warblers, N. Parula, N. Waterthrush, C. Yellowthroats, and A. Redstarts, Lincoln's, Swamp and White-crowned Sparrows, Scarlet Tanagers, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, Baltimore and Orchard Orioles.

Again we had The Islands to our selves as far as birders go. In the last 3 days we only saw 1 other birder on Monday and 1 today. Under birded The Islands remain.

hi Norm

good birding! We went to the Island last week in the hopes of finding more warblers and getting some ID practice in. We got caught in Saturday's storms and it was literally a washout. Are you open to others accompanying you to the Islands? We seem to need some help and we can rarely make the OFO trips. I don't want to post my private email here tho... not sure how to make this system work for me....

I agree, it's underbirded. And when the weather is iffy it's lovely and quiet.

I birded the islands as well, on Wednesday. There were at least two other birders this week.
