Title: Help!
Post by: Anonymous on May 21, 2009, 01:22:52 AM
I shot these 2 down at the Bluffs today and can't figure out what they are.  I think the top one is a swamp sparrow but I can't find locate a picture of one with the yellow band over its eye.  Number 2 I have NO clue...lol

I do believe the first one is a Savannah Sparrow as they often, not always, show yellow lores. No clue on the second shot, sorry.

Agree with #1 Savannah. #2 looks like a Warbling Vireo.

I agree on the Savannah sparrow, however, the second bird seems to have too much of an eye stripe for a Warbling vireo. I think it is a Red-eyed vireo.

Hmmm....what has me confused here is the black edge on the tail.  After looking at photos of both vireo's mentioned, neither of them have that colouration marked.

The search continues....

I was trying to figure out if there is a dark edge on the tail.  Could it be that the sun is shining onto the base and most of the length of the tail, but that the tip is shaded by the tree branch?

I'll go with Kin on this one.  Savanah Sp. and Warbling V.
