Title: Immature Scarlet Tanager

Hello:  I believe I have been working with an immature male this week at Victoria College, 91 Charles Street West (Bay and Bloor) on the south side of the building.  This bird comes very close (1foot) from me when I am working on this gardening project.  The bird is very orange.  I have not seen one in Toronto before.  Thanks  Milly

Do you know what a Baltimore Oriole looks like?  It would fit your description and would be far more likely.

Yes, this fella has an orange head.  It is very orange.  Milly

A female oriole has a dull orange head, but maybe a better way to distinguish is that a male Scarlet Tanager has all black wings and tail:  no wing bars.  I can't think of anything similar without wing bars.

Hello:  I am on the site again and the bird definitely has an orange head, black wings and it seems there is yellow under the wings at the bottom.  Milly

It's possible your bird could be an orange-variant Scarlet Tanager. I've seen adult males (red) in the park at Jarvis and Adelaide.
