Title: Not a Robin...spotted towhee?
Post by: ravynne40 on June 06, 2009, 03:26:17 PM
I was out early this morning at Col.Sam Smith Park (yes my favorite place) and the sun was in my eyes of course (another excuse)
so i saw this bird and I took the photo thinking...ok Irene another robin picture..if it doesn't turn out..purge it.

Welllll its not a robin!

I'm taking a wild guess here that it might be a spotted towhee? either that or a robin with the measles. My book reference is not that great (the sketched colors don't match up quite right)

can anyone confirm this for me please?

muchly appreciated

IreneC.

Unless I am mistaken-this is a young, first year, robin.

Nice shot nevertheless.

Cheers,

Bernie

Don't feel bad, born of the year and immature looks are not normally used as the photo or litho mock ups in birding books.
