Title: Page Lay-out request
Post by: The Observer on July 09, 2009, 11:53:06 PM
Is it a big deal to put a "View Previous Topic" and a "View Next Topic" link at the bottom of the page as well as at the top?

Not a huge issue... but I do wish for it every time I read through a post, get to the end and then have to scroll to the top in order to advance to the next one.

Just a thought. Either way, thanks.

I'll have a look to see how easily I can modify the layout.  It should be doable.

Once again, thank you!

This particular change is not as trivial as I thought. I assumed a few minor edits would do the trick, but I see now that I need to spend more time on it. I will do so as soon as I have a chance.

Whether or not it is doable, I really appreciate your looking into it.

Be well.

One feature I really like is the "view posts since last visit". However is there a way to stop receiving certain postings or strings. If so, how and could that be made a little easier to do or Find.
Eg; in Anything goes - Birds of the metal kind. No offense but not something a care about. Can I still receive recent posts but not for that or other selected topics? Thanks.

Sorry, but neither of the two requests above are simple to employ. The code that displays the pages you see is not readily modified. I am not saying it is impossible, but my feeble mind kept blanking out as I stared at and monkeyed around with the code. I will play with it again when I find some free time. It has now become a bit of a challenge... 8)

Have you tried "Alt-Left"? ... assuming you're not using a Mac. That will bring you back to the list of latest topics.

Andy: so you are one of those.... lucky us! Will keep my eyes open.

Kin: Wouldn't you know... I am indeed a Mac user! Will have to see if there is a Mac shortcut equivalent to "Alt-left". Wouldn't have thought about going that route so thanks!

The Mac keyboard does have the ALT key, so it might work. My old PowerMac is buried in the locker, so I can't drag it out to test.

Kin: I found Mac's equivalent, it's "Cmd-[".

Funny, if I use that keyboard command, it doesn't register that I have viewed the post until I go back to the main index (or reply to the post).... only then is the post no longer highlighted. Anyhoo, that does "sort of" do the trick... using it to see the previous/next post does take me back to the section index but I still have to select the next post in order to see it! Whereas within the post all I have to do is select previous/next. I guess it's an activity trade-off since it gives my fingers a break from scrolling (hahaha).

It will be used by me elsewhere that's for sure. Great tip... Thanks!
