Title: Bears and Camping

I don't know why, but I've received several requests for information regarding where it could be possible to encounter black bears during a camping trip.

While I don't mind giving locations such as Algonquin Park, I also ensure that people are aware and know what measures to take should they encounter a bear during their stay.

The black bear population here in Ontario, much like cougars in BC, are spending more and more time around residential areas looking for food because of the lack of berry production here in Ontario, and as such more encounters are being reported to the MNR.

Linked below is the Parks Canada Bears and People brochure which contains a tonne of information on how to prepare for a trip to bear land, but also gives advice which is applicable should you encounter a bear in any situation.

Greetings :D

    I just got back from Tadoussac, Quebec, (12hr drive) and camped there for four days to do some photographing of whales and birds. Just north of the campsite there is a bear blind that you can go to for a fee ($25) and for about 2hrs you can veiw and photograph black bears. The bears run wild there and are not fenced in, only the blind is electricly fenced. There is a guide there that feeds them around 5:30pm so the bears stick around for a free lunch.

Great shots Clemens. Did U get a chance to whale watch in Taddoussac? I was there in 2002 and saw 3 kinds of whales plus Porpises and Seals in one day on their tour boat. (3 trips out one after the other)

   We mostly saw minke whales, a few belugas and one humpback. Also some harp seals as well.

Great photos!  I was camping at Killarney Provincial Park July 1 and saw bears by the camp office, leaving the park (thank heavens!).  I was also birdwatching at Carden Alvar and a bear ran across the road.  No opportunity for pics like these.

When we camped in Jasper BC/AB, we had bears every morning in the campground, different ones too, including 2 brown bears.
