Title: Great Horned Owl and Baby
Post by: skyviewer on July 24, 2009, 09:10:55 AM
Out at one of my favourite spots in north Ajax taking pictures of a green heron and i see this very large thing up in a tree.  Well to my delight it was a Great Horned Owl with its baby.  The baby was pretty skittish and loud.  It kept flying to different trees.  The weird thing is that it was around 5pm after it finished raining and they were right out in the open and seemed fairly active especially the baby.  The mother (i presume) was up in a dead tree with no leaves in the wide open over the swampy pond.  Today i will atempt to swim across the swamp to get better pictures.  Fortunately we don't have crocodiles or alligators in the GTA.

Thanks for the report Skyviewer.  Watch out for leeches. :)

FYI - the mods have asked to post photos (including those in reports) in the Photos forum.

Cheers, Attila

Title: Got a question
Post by: skyviewer on July 24, 2009, 09:43:20 PM
Anyone know why they are out in the open like this during the day?  I thought they were nocturnal.  I was by and seen them again today.  Is this cause the baby is keeping mom up?
