Title: Walkabout Birds...
Post by: Anonymous on July 28, 2009, 04:33:46 PM
So I've started walking to lose weight and thought I'd share some pictures with you all...nothing special, but a nice variety for Frenchmans Bay.

Don't knock yourself ... those are excellent pictures!  And, I'm joining you on the walking to lose weight thingy ... only I don't have a nice camera outfit where I can take nice pictures!

Good luck with the weight loss!!

Cheers, Hilander

my fiancee (who is a professional photographer *cough!*www.sharp-photo.com *cough!*) thinks that robins are the best bird to photograph.
they are pretty, they have great colour, they stand on the ground and pose and you can get relatively close.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, I appreciate them and the encouragement.  :D

Skyviewer - it was pretty neat to see that swan interact with the heron, became quite comical to watch as they both stared each other down.

Yogistewart - your fiancee does a find job shooting, great work on her site.

Colin - thanks mate, I'm still trying to figure out what the heck the robin is trying to eat in that pic...:)

Kin - thank you.  It's the first time that I've managed to see one stretching in such close proximity to me, normally happens at an elevation.

Love all the shots, especially the detail in what I believe is an Eastern Kingbird!

Congratulations on your loss (that sounds odd) and your great shots (fly-bys of GBH & GE are divine)!

Oh, and what is that sparrow-like bird between the Eastern Kingbird and Regal Pigeon?

Wish you all the best on your quest. A wonderful inspiration... Walk-on!

Thanks Observer. :)

Ya, I was really happy to see them all flying instead of just stalking the shallows.

I think the sparrow is a summer phase Savannah Sparrow, but it wouldn't be the first time I'm wrong given I have a hard time id'ing sparrows apart from the usual suspects we see.

Getting closer to the goal each day, and I know I'll get there soon.  I never really realised, as a guy, how important good physical health is especially for someone in their 30's.  I'm hoping to lose all this weight by Christmas so that I can start doing a lot long treks and hikes in the winter searching for some elusive quarry like lynx, bobcats, and some of the owls that fly down here for the winter.

Cheers,
Attila

I so get the sparrow brow furrow... obviously have a similar affliction... thanks for the id!

Bobcats and Lynx in the Toronto area? Who knew!?

All the best.

Observer - outside of Toronto, but ya, in close proximity to the city. :)

Egret - glad you like them. :)

Spotted a broad winged hawk on today's stroll - man, talk about species diversity.  Enjoy the sunny weather everyone, but pack some water.
