Post by: cabz on August 20, 2009, 07:15:59 PM
My husband and I are thinking of doing this drive mid November or December.  Hopefully, no hurricanes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Any info/advise for places and hotspots for birding etc would be appreciated.   I identify the birds and he takes the pics.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Exactly where are you starting in Florida? You should get a copy of the Florida Birding Trail. It will give you so many great locales. Also go to the Birdingpal site. Local birders can offer tips. We like the Naples area. Eagle Lakes in Naples is small, but offers great variety. You can visit Corkscrew Swamp. There is also Ding Darling NWR on Sanibel Island. Past Fort Myers, in Cape Coral, you can see Burrowing Owls. Hope this helps getting you started.

I have been to Corkscrew Swamp in years pass, twice, had to go there just for the name!!!  Also spent abit of time on Sanibel Island.  We are looking at starting Tallahassee, flying into there and going west to New Orleans.  Still in the planning stage and of course, gotta get the time off work!!!!!!  Again thanks for the advise, will look up the sites and the Birding trail.
