Title: Still struggling, thanks for your help
Post by: What was that? on August 21, 2009, 04:10:49 PM
Over the last few days took pics of some that I just am not sure about or am completely clueless about. Thanks in advance for your help.
1. Merganser, young one probably - but which merganser? Female hooded or red-breasted.

2. Flycatcher - but that's where I get lost

3. Shorebirds from Reesor pond - dumb look on my face (not pretty)

4. Warbler - Humber Bay - possibly Blackburnian (but only because someone else posted them recently)

Thanks all.

1. Hooded Merganser: bi-coloured bill and 2 tone face
3. Most of the detail that you need to make a correct ID are lost because of the harsh light conditions.
I would go with Least Sandpiper
4. Blackburnian is a good guess

I'd say from what a large/heavy bill #2 has that it is a great crested flycatcher.
