Title: Scarlet Tanager, Bluebirds, Green Herons
Post by: skyviewer on August 26, 2009, 09:50:24 PM
Enniskillen is a conservation area in north Bowmanville.  There is a pond/swamp there that had a great blue heron on it with about 5 green herons.  There is forest all around the pond.  While watching a scarlet tanager flew by.  It was my first sighting of one and i could not believe how brilliant the colour was.  I tried to hunt it down to get a picture but it went in to some heavy tree cover.  I also heard some small birds that i have never seen or heard before.  The sound was kinda like a chickadee but with a double chatter at the end.  It was a darker colour.  I also heard a woodpecker but could not get a glimpse of it because of the heavy bush.  It sounded big though because the pecking was soo loud compared to a flicker or smaller woodpeckers pecking that i have heard.    After Enniskillen i drove up to a swamp on concession road 9 and there were some wood ducks.  Then further along concession road 9 just east of Grandview road there is a small pond in a farmers field that must have a 100 or so ducks on it.  You could see others having difficulty trying to fly in and find a spot to land.  In the same area just on the road i saw at least 6 bluebrids, multiple finches amnd some other unrecognized birds.  I have been by here before and seen the bluebirds.
