Title: Shorebird id please
Post by: accwai on September 07, 2009, 11:33:29 PM
Any idea what this is?

Photo taken over the weekend at east shore of Lake Simcoe.  It's the only photo of this species.  Found it after sorting things out at home.  Didn't even notice it while I was there.  So no second angle, unfortunately.  Any help in id would be greatly appreciated.

Juvenile Black-bellied Plover.
Looks nothing like the adult breeding plumage in books.  No wonder I couldn't find it.  Thanks.

Great photo!

Thanks!  The session was my first experiment with using ground pod.  The almost flat angle has a rather nice look to it, but the shooting itself is very messy.  For those that want to try it, be extremely careful what you touch when moving around on the ground or you'll get wet sand all over your equipment.  That wouldn't be nice, trust me...
