Title: Red-Tailed Hawk at Marie Curtis Park
Post by: ravynne40 on September 14, 2009, 03:48:29 PM
Sept 14/09 Marie Curtis Park
early morning stroll before work, beautiful Red-Tailed Hawk sitting on the light post. I think he might still be
a young one, not sure, if anyone could elaborate I would appreciate it.  Took a bunch of photos, but still need to edit them.

Red-tailed Hawk: age
red tail or brown tail- all eastern adults will have a red tail and juveniles will have a brown tail (some juveniles may have a rufous tail that is similar to an adult)
eye colour: yellow or dark- juvenile birds will have a yellow eye and older birds will have a darker eye
This bird has a red tail and a dark eye. It is an adult

Thank you all for your kind words

and thank you Rayfield :) I wasn't sure about the age because when he flew into the trees his landings were..fumbled and clumsy...not sure what i was expecting, some graceful landing maybe?
but it sure was a delight to see him

i am also questioning whether or not if the lens of the camera would bother a bird like that? i.e. reflection? does he see himself? i know their eyesight is very keen.
