I was out at Luther Marsh doing work for CWS on Egrets. There are still alot of them up there.
I counted 109, with alot of them in the marsh immediately adjacent to sideroad 21/22 just south of the main gate to the marsh.
Other highlights included:
1 White-throated Sparrow singing away in mid day just like in June. It's almost constant serenade livened up the quiet forest.
2 resident Bald Eagles
1 Osprey. There were 10 nests this year in the marsh property
Herons: Great Blue, Green, Black-crowned Nightheron
American Bittern
5 Sandhill Cranes seen, I heard them through out the day buggling away.
1 Peregrine Falcon hunting Lesser Scaup flocks
alot of waterfowl of 13 species
Lots and Lots of Pied-billed Grebes
and 10 species of warblers
The ring road is open but beavers have flooded it about 5km in and it is passable in a higher vehicle.
Also goose hunting season is on and the hunt days are Monday, wednesday, friday and saturday till noon I think. On none hunting days there are very few people around.
