Title: Requesting help identifying a duck
Post by: KPaw on October 18, 2009, 12:03:24 PM
Hi, Yesterday at Grenadier Pond in Toronto there were a number (about 15) ducks that I think are Gadwalls but am not sure.  I can't seem to attach a photo so I will explain my problem in definitely knowing it was a Gadwell which is that the forehead is extremely high and appears to have a crest of some sort.  There were some females that I am positive were Gadwalls; however, these other ducks were buffy brown with the body of a Gadwall; however, there was this sort of crest on the forehead.   The bill was solid black.  Also, on some of the photos I took the white speculum is clearly evident so this does point me to a Gadwall but, again, the shape of the forehead is more like a Bufflehead's....

Sorry about this but if somebody can direct me as to how to attach my photo I would love to do so.

Thanks everyone.

I use www.flickr.com (http://www.flickr.com) and upload my photos there.  You then just copy the url from the picture and paste in your message here.  Hope this is helpful.
