Title: Clarkson Sightings
Post by: JimmyM on October 27, 2009, 04:57:15 PM
During the past 2 weeks many birds have being visiting my backyard feeders .
The juncos are back, and bluejays, house sparrows, downy woodpeckers, doves, lots of nuthaches and chickadees , the odd RWBB and grackle - are visiting.
Had 7 cardinals, some on the feeder and some on the ground partaking of the safflower seeds  I mix in with the black oil sunflower .
My wife saw a hawk ( no ID but 1/2 again as large as the crow) swoop down and take a crow perched on hydro wires - by the neck and fly off with it !

Hi Jim.  Great sightings!  :)

What time of day did your wife see the hawk?
Gives new meaning to "eat Crow" ( sorry, couldn't resist!)

Thanks Moira.  :D  The closer it gets to Halloween, the more warped I become.

About 5 pm - dinner time for some nest hawks.

Thanks Jim.  I had initially wondered if the hawk had gone after the crow for lunch or dinner.
