Title: More from my yard
Post by: Leslie Kinrys on September 10, 2006, 10:05:39 PM
The unsettled weather and other commitments kept me indoors this weekend, so I missed out on hitting one of the hawk watches.  But, the birds have been coming through our yard. Friday and Saturday the following was around our house in the Bathurst/Sheppard area: Blue Jay, lots of Grackles, a female Flicker, Red-breasted Nuthatch, 2 Chickadees, Chipping Sparrows, Yellow, Chestnut-sided, Nashville and Magnolia warblers, 3 Red-eyed Vireos, Cooper's Hawk and a circling Red-tailed Hawk (both locals), a Ruby-throated Hummingbird, a Great Crested Flycatcher, and many Goldfinches feeding on the neighbours' sunflowers. I saw a male feeding a begging fledgling. He must have got in a second clutch. There are usually 2 or 3 Monarchs in these flowers at any one time.
