I use iBird Plus (birds of North America), and it's very good. I do like a physical book, since scanning is much faster with a book, but this is with me all the time, and it has the bird songs.

I use the same app as Kin the ibird one. It has 920 north american birds, def a great id helper. I find it best to keep it under families then I can click on the family of the bird, pick the one i think it is, hit the song and then play the sounds similar songs to help id. I also check the range and the real photo's to make the positive id. Really a good tool for juv. birds as they usually have a picture for them as well.  :D Hope you enjoy your ipod !! :D

There are more than one ibirds products, divided by regions. I use the ibirds pro for my iphone. It is the North American wide one. It is a great app. Quite useful on my trip to Florida. It is nice to have a bird guide at your fingertips. Audobon has apps for wildflowers, mammals, and trees if you are interested as well, and a bird one too.

Title: Ipod? what Ipod?
Post by: Napper on November 30, 2009, 08:01:04 PM
Thanx for all of the help/info  guys :D

My son, the resident computer geek, regularly absconds with it " the ipod" into the nether regions of the house for hours on end.   The only time I see it is when it is charging

I do really like the skype app. It works and sounds better than the pc version..

Napper

p.s. I found the "Tern" while going thru some older files from Tiny Township this past summer..

hi

Funny Napper, that describes almost exactly what happens to "my" Ipod.

We're trying to decide on IBirds versus Audubon. The latter lets you make notes on what you see; it seems IBird doesn't, at least in the free expermental version... is that others' experience with the paid IBirds version?

Does anyone use Audubon and what's your feeling about it if so?

I'll never give up my books but I must admit it will be nice to have a lightweight reference that also makes the rights sounds!
