Hi everybody.
Just got home from walking around Lake Wabukayne - saw a male Wood Duck swimming around with Mallards and Black Ducks at the SW end of the lake. His colours are SO stunning in the sunlight! :D
Otherwise, one Red-breasted Nuthatch, 2 Blue Jays, 6 Cardinals (5m, 1f) and lots of Chickadees.
Also went for a walk around Lake Aquitaine - oddly quiet this week, mainly Canada Geese, Gulls and Mallards.
Jo-Anne :)
Lake Wabukayne: NE corner of Glen Erin Dr./Windwood Dr., behind the condo and school.
Lake Aquitaine: SE corner of Glen Erin Dr./Aquitaine Ave., behind the community centre.

Jim ... saw the male Wood Duck again today at the far East end of the lake (closest to Erin Mills Pkwy.) and observed a few things:
He was tilting his head back and letting loose with high pitched squeaky sounds. I could see the beautiful bright white colour under his chin.
Afterwards, he was stretching his neck and head really high up - reminded me of "E.T.".
He's following a female Mallard everywhere!
-
oh!oh! maybe he thinks,he,s amallard, like the hoodie that,s been seen with mallards on the ganaraska, for a few years now.wonder what the ducklings would look like LOL

Denis ... he's totally in love (or lust) with the female Mallard, follows her around everywhere like a love sick puppy! He's been aggressive towards male Mallards and chases them away. He's even been chasing other female Mallards away - guess he has his heart set on the one only! :D
He's so gorgeous - how could she resist him?

If you're willing to travel to Hwy 401/Erin Mills Pkwy., he should be here for awhile sticking like glue to his lady love.
Lake Wabukayne isn't too far South of the highway.

You are very close to an excellent location for Wood Ducks. Lake Scugog- south of the causway, feeding on the wild rice. I don't know how many would still there at this time of year. In late September you can see over a hundred Wood Ducks feeding on the wild rice.

thanks rayfield
i realise that we have them, but the ducks here have been totally unapproachable, since the hunting season.i seen a beautiful pair of pintails, but just raising the lens for a pic,at about 200 ft,was enough to flush them.poor things, probably think it,s a gun.
