Moira ... Wow, those are awesome photos.  I especially like your first photo!  Just read about this owl on the ONTBIRDS site earlier this evening.

Thanks Jo-Anne.  I read about it on ONTBIRDS too.  I went once before and didn't see him, but he was back today.  He's in a tree on someone's front lawn.  Lucky people!

Moira,
These are beautiful.
I think I would probably walk right by this guy if I didn't know he was there.
What great camo.
I have read about this owl in Cannington and wondered if it was worth the drive there.
After seeing you fantastic shots I have decided it is.
Thanks for posting these they are great.

Beautiful shot, I like the first photo, you would have to take a second look, because he blends in so well.

Just read a report on the B-Mail that it got injured and has been taken for rehab.

JTF:  That's disturbing news.  I just saw him late yesterday.  I guess that's the postive part of being in such a public spot - someone has got him help.

I just read the same report
See below:

"We drove to Cannington this morning to have a look at the Screech Owl, but it was injured last night on the street and is being picked up today for rehabilitation.  Thanks to the landowner who has taken in the owl and called for help"

Moira, you are right, if the owl hadn't been in the neighbourhood he may have likely perished.
Hopefully it'll be OK.

Oh No! re: injured.  :(  This is very upsetting news.

What do they mean by "on the street"? ... hit by a vehicle? attacked by an animal?  other?

I'm also curious to know where he/she was taken for rehab.

oh another injured owl  :( That's awful! I heard that the barn owl captured at fifty is doing well at the rehab clinic; I hope this little guy gets better too!
Title: Screech Owl Update

Good Evening Everyone,

Here is a update on the ESO as posted on Ont Birds

Subject: * TODAY * [Ontbirds] Cannington Screech-Owl
From: Ray Lush
Date: Tue, Dec 1, 2009, 4:53 PM

Hello Birders,

I have received a number of inquiries about the Cannington Eastern
Screech-Owl. On Friday evening Jack Owen noticed the owl taking off for his
nightly hunt. A few minutes later he heard a commotion outside on the
street. A woman walking her dog was trying to hold her dog back from
attacking the owl that was lying on the road. Wanda Owen went out to care
for the owl while Jack went to find a cage. The owl spent Friday and
Saturday night in the Owen's shower stall while we had a few false starts at
trying to find out what to do. On Sunday we drove the owl down to the
Toronto Wildlife Centre to have him evaluated. At the Toronto Wildlife
Centre after examination they determined the owl did not have any broken
bones. The only problem was the owl would not eat. The owl is now at the Owl
Foundation in Vineland and if he/she is able to be released again we are
told that the Foundation prefers to release owls within a mile of the place
where they were caught. So we may yet see the owl back on the tree in
Cannington.
