Title: today,s outing

the first is a nice drake mallard from barrie,last week-end.the snow bunting was captured today.i apologize for the soft focus,but with the wind howling,it was very hard to hold the lens steady.the hawk was captured earlier in the day.i think it,s a sharp-shinned,but may be a coopers.i,m not that good at identifying those two.can someone I.D. it for me.would appreciate it.i,m kinda leaning towards the cooper,s because of the apparent rounder tail.

Great pictures Denis. I really like the Snow Bunting. It's a bird that we don't get very often out here on the west coast. Your accipiter looks like a Copper's Hawk. It's always a challenge to ID these birds from a single photo, but fun none the less. With eye to beak ratio (probably mis-leading due to the angle of the head) and the really white tips on the retrices I'm leaning towards Cooper's Hawk.

great photo's!! I love the snow bunting they are sooo cute  :D  I would go with cooper's hawk because the tail is rounded usually a sharpie has a squared off tail.

thanks for all your input.was a tough day for photos,with the wind constantly howling,especially with the long lens.i will process another hawk pic,with a side head pose,which may make the I.D. a bit easier. ambleside birder,welcome to the site.hope to see some pics from your specimens out there,that we never see!
