Title: Adult bald eagle spotted in South Bowmanville

Hi there.

My name is Tim and I've been meaning to post since August, but with the birth of my second son there just hasn't been the time.

Yesterday along the waterfront trail between Waverley and Holt Rd, around 12:45, I spotted an adult soaring to the west at its usual brisk clip. I was able to observe it for about two minutes before it disappeared into the blue.  I also spotted a Northern harrier at the southern end of Solina Rd., an immature female, 6 red-tailed hawks, 3 male and 4 female cardinals and a small posse of about 10 red-winged blackbirds, which was another nice surprise.
 
Earlier I also spotted a pair of white-throated sparrows, a red-breasted nuthatch and a creeper at the southern end of Bowmanville Valleys park.

hi Tim

We saw the same bird, I am guessing, soaring above the 401 at White's Road at about noon Saturday as we whipped along the express (I was not driving, I promise). A lovely sighting in the midst of steel and concrete!

Hello Jo-Anne, Tom and Julie.

Tom there are numerous spots along the waterfront trail in Bowmanville that I have found, chief amongst them is West Side Marsh, which in the fall especially can yield upwards of 60 species in a day, including upwards of a dozen warbler species. Any good places up Orono way? I often go to Long Sault but that about as far a field as I go in that direction.

Julie, glad to hear that someone else spotted the eagle as well... I never for a second doubted what I was looking at, but at the same time its nice to know someone else saw it too.

So far I've been mostly a backyard birder but both the Orono crown lands and the Ganaraska are good.  A barred owl and I startled each other while I was going through the Orono forest just yesterday.  I'm making a point to find it again...   :)
