Thats a nice sharp pic denis.  The back ground is nice and clean with no noticeable noise as well.
What were your settings, camera and lens?

Very nice i use the 40D as well with a 100-400mm.
That is pretty sweet you get nice sharp shots like that even when using the 1.4 TC.  The beauty of a high end lens like that.
I was lucky to see the barred owl in Thicksons woods back in October.

Cheers

thanks jo-anne,and paul.
skyviewer: the 100-400 is a very good lens.i just sold mine.the best zoo lens! unfortunately,hand-held,the 40-d/500 mm, combo,is not a very good flight shot duo, for me at least, due to the heavy weight, and long focal lenght, which makes acquiring, and tracking your subject, very difficult.i,ve been experimenting with a 300 f/4 + 1.4x extender, and had some sucess, yesterday with geese.much easier to lock focus, and track, beeing much lighter, and affording a much wider field of view.

we should talk about it in another forum, but, as i mentioned to you, denis, the cannn versus nikkon quality of images is day and night.
cannon pics always have that POP to them, whereas nikkon has more dull photos.

anyone know a way via photoshop to make nikkon pics look more like cannon pics?

yes yogi i agree, with another forum.
but i dont know, about canon, beeing that much superior to nikon.if at all.just look at paul,s pics! he,s using nikon.i think the determining factor is the glass.

Denis:  Just following up on some of your comments about hand holding.  I bought a flight brace from one of the Halls Road regulars (in an effort to get off my tripod!).  If you are interested, let me know and I will p.m. you his info.  I feel it was well worth the money - you may have seen some of the Halls Roads folks using it.
