Title: Odd Duck
Post by: Murray on January 14, 2010, 10:28:43 PM
Would this be considered a Mallard with leucism?
I don't really know but it certainly stood out from the bunch.
This was down at Bluffers Park today.
Thanks for any info anyone could provide.

I think you're right.  It looks like a leucistic female Mallard.

BTW, I think "leucistic" is the currently preferred term, but I noticed at the recently re-done bird display at the Museum of Nature in Ottawa, they used "partial albino".

Was at the park last night and the duck has been there for over 3 years.  I have pictures from 2007 and on.  He is a lovely duck that really stands out.  Ann

Hey Murray,

I've seen that bird on many visits to the park during the winter months over the last few years.  Glad to see it has returned once again.
