Hey Napper, what's up? Are you forgetting to put some food out for the little birdies?
I've got 8 A. goldfinches here regularly in Brampton fighting over the niger seed and this week 3 chickadees have joined the fray. Most odd, they usually just flit around, I've never seen them perch and take their time at the feeder.
This a.m. there were also a dozen juncos on the take and a couple of mourning doves hanging out. Maybe I should tackle the GBBC this weekend. It would be great if the pair of cardinals would drop by, haven't seen them for a week or so.

Hey Margaret!
The Feeders! all three of them are full !!!
when I get home from work on Thursday (tomorrow) I am going to the TSC Tractor Supply Company to buy some black oil seeds.
The Seed I am using now was bought at Costco.. Lets see if it makes a difference..
Even the Squirrels won't go near the stuff out there now.

Quiet here too (Bayview & Steeles area), except for house sparrows, chickadees and a pair of cardinals. Actually, I'm quite thankful for the chickadees 'cause I need all the practice I can get with my new gear but I am still hopeful that something more interesting will show up. Once in a while I get a few juncos and a red breasted nuthatch but that's pretty well it. No goldfinches for several weeks. Has anyone seen bluejays at their feeders this winter?
Btw, the cardinals are really early birds and night owls, i.e. they are usually around well before sunrise and after sunset when all the other birds are long gone. They can also be pretty aggressive at the feeder, chasing other birds away when they get too close. I hope they will nest close by this year and with luck, get to raise their own offspring, unlike last year when all I got from them was a lone cowbird!!

Has anyone seen bluejays at their feeders this winter?
At my friend's backyard feeders (she lives by Maplewood Park), yes.
I don't have any feeders but have seen Blue Jays all Winter out here in Mississauga at above location plus at Lake Aquitaine (2 resident Blue Jays here year round) and Lake Wabukayne. They always make an appearance along with Cardinals and Chickadees while I'm feeding shelled peanuts to squirrels. Some days they are very demanding and noisy, wanting their lunch! :D

It's about 5:45pm and both cardinals arrived a few minutes ago. They chased away the last of the sparrows and they're having a quiet romantic dinner at the feeder! Btw, I heard the male cardinal chirping (not singing) for the first time since last year. Is that a sign of something? Spring I hope!!
