Post by: musicalfool on February 20, 2010, 11:49:06 AM
Every year ice sculptures form on my wintering clematis, usually resembling birds.  They viewable at www.flickr.com/photos//ajla9 (http://www.flickr.com/photos//ajla9)

Hi musicalfool,

welcome to the forum. That is a beautiuful sculpture. We should all have a guess at what species it resembles. I'll go first. Pileated woodpecker!

PS. I  moved your post to the "Anything Goes" section, as this is not a sighting report, see guide lines (http://outdoorontario.net/birds/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1885).

Thanks Andreas, I was wondering where to post it.  I had thought Kingfisher because of the angle and length of bill; but now I definitely see pileated woodpecker features also.  Cheers.
