Though it was a Gold Metal day - later. It started in Red at Lambton. The reported Pileated and Red Bellied Woodies were still around on Sunday. Both were seen at close range, without stalking or chasing, in full sun. The R.B. was partaking of suet at the feeder and the Pileated was further south. House Finches and the usual winter denizens were also at the feeders. Not found was a reported N.Pintail but 9 Common Merg's were. Also spotted a couple of Red Tails being - err- indescrete in the trees above the western bank overlooking the houses. I basked and birded the hour of bright sun and no wind for all it was worth. Made it home in time for the game though.

what time were you there?
i was there (albeit briefly) form 12-1 and had zero luck seeing the 'peckers. lunch at Hoof Cafe interrupted my birding.

I'm still searching for the Pileated down in Lambton. I saw one 3 years ago just north/west of the Dundas bridge.

i personally haven't seen it in 6 or so visits. heard it a few times, but never seen it.

One of these days for me, hopefully soon, before the leaves grow back in. I think I am in the right area as most sightings I have heard about are near where I prefer to trek/watch.... from the parking lot of James Gardens to the walking path where those guys hang the suet and bottle feeder and slightly beyond westward. I may have to expand and explore further tho. Oh, and I think I have heard it's call... using the Cornell site allaboutbirds.com as a reference.
