Title: Cooper's Hawk

I'm new to this forum, but I thought it worthwhile to report a wonderful sighting of a Cooper's Hawk in Niagara Falls last weekend (sorry it took me a week to post this!)  :?  I'm usually just a backyard birder, but I was excited to recognize a juvenile Cooper's in the process of hunting a large gull.   I was lucky enough to snap a few pics to verify the identity when I got home.  :)  Can anyone tell me  how often I might see one of these majestic birds?  I had not seen any before this sighting.

Hi, welcome to the board!  I am a newbie here as of this week...

I don't know how often you may see one of these.  If you know where it might be nesting increases your chances.  And where it hunts.

Thanks Rob-in-To...unfortunately, I'm not in NF often.  I live in Pickering, and we often see a lot of different hawks on the fly throughout the year, but it's not often that I get to see one close up in the process of a kill!

I spent 2 hours watching and photographing a Coopers Hawk eating a pigeon on a large tree in my garden in downtown Toronto last week. Rather gory but fascinating. I would like to add an image but do not know how to do it-advice would be welcome.

Hi Suecan ... if you have a gmail account and a Picasa web album or a Flickr account with Rogers.. then upload your pics to the web site.
Then :
1) select a pic and right click the properties ....you should see the  full path .. i.e http:// lotsof text_/sdldld /sfdfd  .jpg ...  select and copy the  whole thing
2) go to the forum Bird Photo corner and New Post
3) enter some text to describe your pic
4) click the Img button  
5) paste the full link to your website pic
6) click the Img button again ..
7) click Preview at the bottom of the post ..to make sure that the image will be displayed
8) click Submit

Note: on Flickr you need to click " All image sizes" before copying the link .. or the pic will be too small on the forum display.

Oh my goodness-you said to save the large size but I didn't realize it was going to be that big! Is it just me that is seeing it that big? Should I have sent a smaller size?
