Title: First butterflies
Post by: Howieh on March 16, 2010, 06:24:05 PM
Just back from my first butterfly hunt of the season, saw and photographed a couple of eastern commas in Bestview Park; still no mourning cloaks but it shouldn't be long (of course I may have missed them because the sun was already pretty low when I got to the park - will try again tomorrow).

Now if that doesn't say the groundhog was wrong, I"m not sure what does...except perhaps some bats.

Are you referring to the Canadian groundhog? If he sees his shadow it just means there's six more weeks of hockey!!

Unless the groundhog wears a Maple Leafs sweater then it stopped playing hockey in late November.

6 more weeks if you're a Toronto fan...and i guess an Oiler fan...every other team in Canada will likely have more than 6 more weeks...
Title: Butterfly's and Bats

Hey Folks

I was enjoying my Wednesday walk to the Go Go bus stop When a co-worker graciously offered me a ride (I really needed the walk)

As we approached Keele Street I spotted a Morning Cloak along Wilson Ave. I thought that was pretty cool..

A pair of courting Retail Hawks kept my interest while waiting for my transport home from  Keele and 401..

Axeman:!:  there were bats circling around my house in Milton two nights ago.

p.s. All  of our normal migrants are back.  I am seeing flock after flock of Red-Winged Blackbirds flying over town & Robins everywhere today.

You mean retail hawks? (as opposed to wholesale hawks! - sorry, just kidding, couldn't resist!). It's been a really disappointing winter at my feeder but I've seen more redtails than ever; a couple of weeks ago we were driving on the ramp from Bathurst to highway 7 when I spotted a redtail on a light standard beside the road; pointed him out to my (much) better half but she didn't look up in time; didn't matter 'cause there was another hawk on the next lamppost and still another one on the first pole across the highway. Unless they're waiting for smart cars there must be a good food source nearby!

Title: Sinus problems
Post by: Howieh on March 18, 2010, 07:20:36 PM
Hi Napper,

You have my complete sympathy where sinuses are concerned. I've had chronic sinusitous since the womb and growing up in a smokey house probably didn't help! I'm sure you've tried most of the suggested treatments but if you've never tried a saline rinse, give it a try. It really helps me. Hope yer feeling better!
