Title: Spring 2010 birding season - please read!
Post by: Andreas Jonsson on March 21, 2010, 11:46:04 AM
Now, as spring migration has started and people are posting more frequently, I would like to kindly remind you to have a look at the guidelines for this section of the forum (see the Sticky post at the top).

In particular, please use as descriptive subjects for your posts as you can. For example, it doesn't take much effort to scribble down location and date. "Migrants at Leslie Street Spit, March 21" is more useful than just "Migrants" or "The Spit".

Also, please make yourself familiar with the other sections of the forum. I spend a fair bit of time moving RFI posts and seasonal 1st observations to their appropriate place (Bird ID, and Migration Movements sections).

Remember that this section (Toronto Reports) is primarily for reporting birds that you you think other birders would like to see as well. Generally that means a location should be attached. For example, if you've encountered a nice bird in your backyard, and are not prepared to give up your address, maybe your post should go elsewhere, e.g. "General Discussion". Perhaps we should open up a "Backyard birding" section? What do you think?

Otherwise I think the "Toronto Reports" section is working great. Keep the posts coming!

If you you have a ideas, opinions, or generally want to give feedback about the forum, please let us know in the Board-related Issues section.

Happy birding!

Thank you for commenting that one should add a location for local sightings. Most birders are only too eager to share their sightings with others while a few still prefer to keep the locations to themselves, which makes me wonder if they ever saw what they reported.

A Backyard Bird forum sounds like a good idea!
Would it be for reports or photos or both?

Great idea ... the thing that got us started was all the birds that we saw right in our own back yard last spring and summer.  Can't see where to reply to the Poll that you mentioned.

Well, simply select "Yes", "No", or "Not sure" and then click "Submit vote". It's at the top of the page that I linked to.

Yes, great idea...especially since I just made my very first post and it was about the birds in my backyard. Sorry, just getting used to the site and am still finding my way around. I don't know how to move the post. But yes, great idea!

Hi Shelly, no worries! Welcome to the forum. Only moderators can move posts. Thanks for the feedback.
Title: Backyard Area
Post by: musicalfool on April 13, 2010, 10:58:40 AM
I like the idea of a backyard area.  As the years pass I seem to see fewer and fewer species in my backyard and it would be reassuring to learn that others are still seeing them.
