Title: Leslie Street Spit Saturday March 27
Post by: jjmb on March 27, 2010, 01:21:38 PM
Pretty good day at the Spit today.
1 Northern Shrike
3 Saw whet owls
1 Great horned owl
4 Canvasbacks
2 flickers
A male and female pair of hairy woodpeckers
Several killdeer
and there were quite a few cormorants already back,
and then all of the other usual waterfowl and perchers for this time of year. It was lovely being out there with all of the singing and chirping.

Down side was that I came across a dead opossum - yes, I am sure that it was actually dead and not playing possum.
Title: Early migrants

I had a walk around the wood lot at the base of the spit (near the parking lot) in the afternoon, and had several song sparrows, grackles, red-winged blackbirds, robins, killdeers. Not many, but spring migration is definitely on!
