While doing an annual Fall Bird Count in north Burlington, a pretty good day weather wise provided a few treats and some surprises. A pond on Derry Rd. provided a decent selection for an inland pond; G.Scaup, 31 Ring-necked Ducks, 5 Buffleheads, 2 Gadwalls and first ever in 10+ years checking this pond; 4 Red-head Ducks & P.B. Grebe! In our day long travels hither & yon of our area we also found A.Tree Sparrows, W.Wren, H.Thrush but the stars of the day were a Northern Shrike, very late Blue-headed Vireo and fairly low, slow fly over by a first year Golden Eagle!! All in all we scored 37 species on the day, a bit above average for the area.
