Post by: mr.sharp-photo on April 10, 2010, 05:40:16 PM
It was actually relatively quiet today.

What I saw:
Cormorants (duh)
Typical water foul near the front harbour
Kestrel
Golden-crowned kinglets (LOTS)
Creepers (at least 15)
Kingfisher (heard twice, not seen)
Killdeer (heard and seen by others)
Horned Lark (i swear i saw one but not certain)
Northern Flicker
Cowbirds
Dark-eyed junco
Swallows (tonnes)
one black bird that was not a starling but I could not ID it

I heard from someone that there was a meadow lark at the spit but I did not see it . I did see a yellow rumped warbler there .

I was also at Leslie Spit on April 10th with my husband and did see what I think was a meadowlark. I have a less than ideal picture of it as well but am not sure I have identified it correctly. I am still very much a newbie

Also saw (and got a picture of)

Cormorant (how could one not)
Scaup (Greater or Lesser, not sure)
Long Tailed Duck
Common Meganser
Tree Swallows galore
Golden-crowned kinglet (I was hoping to see a Ruby-crowned)
Downy Woodpecker
Great Blue Heron in flight

I also saw quite a few Flickers but was not close or fast enough to get a good shot.

Heard rather than saw the sandpipers...

Might head back there next weekend. Was hoping to see a Kestrel...
