Title: Point Pelee birding festival is nearly upon us, whose going?

I should be there from May 6-9, and then back to reality (I think Mothers Day is on the 9th, family takes precedence - some birder I am eh!).

Who else is going?
(Comfort Inn, Leamington, I think).

I'm going May 5-6.  Can't wait.  My fingers and toes are all crossed that my lens will be fixed by then.  If not, I'll be the one with the long face!

We're going, but not til June, I'm spending my birthday on Pelee Island this year, but are planning a trip to the park too.
I'm sure we'll take in the birding festival one year, but as we've never been to the area before we're kinda glad it won't be so crazy busy on our first trip there.

I'm in Pelee May 7-9. Given the early spring I feel like maybe a week earlier would have been better, but it's too late to change now. We're going to Pelee Island for the first time on Saturday. I'm also hoping to buy my first scope at Pelee Wings that weekend, so it should be a busy (and expensive) weekend!

@Graham: Family also takes precedence for me. We'll be heading back fairly early on Sunday for Mother's day dinner.

Weather report for Point Pelee. So far Thursday 6th is wet following three days are good.

Anyone going to Point Pelee should stop at Pelee Wings As there are Red-headed Woodpeckers that come to the feeders across the street. They have a nest close by.If you wait 10 minutes you are almost guaranteed to see them. The birding should be at it's peak then!!!
Also Rondeau is fairly close & gives you your best chance to see the Prothonotary Warbler. It's not quite as crowded.
Another good place is up by Mitchell's Bay on Lake St. Clair. Good chance to see the Yellow-Headed Blackbird.
A great place to see Warblers & Screech Owls is Ojibway Park in Windsor. Very underrated park.

I'll be there May 7-9, also at the Comfort Inn. Over 20 years of annual visits and I still enjoy the trek. Don't forget to check out the onion fields and surrounding area. I also recommend the guided hikes as they are very informative with identification of both sight and sound plus it's fun to be among birders of various skill levels. I expect the foliage will be a little heavier than other years but I know I'll spot something interesting, I always do. Have fun!

For those of you who are heading down to Pelee, don't forget to stop in at Hillman Marsh to put your long lenses on shorebirds.

Darn, only three days plus Mothers Day.
So much to see,, thank folks for offering suggestions and local locations.
Can we move Mothers day this year to allow me to stay for another day?
Under threat of serious injury from my beloved, I guess that's off.
Ah well, next year.

Last year I took two of the guided tours. It was great for me as a complete novice. Things haven't changed that much since then. I believe the Comfort Inn run their own guide tours as well, so that should be fun, informative AND cheap. I like.

If you're going to Hillman Marsh, take along some rubber boots. I was reading a Pelee bird report and it said it is very muddy at the marsh, because work is being done on the dikes.

I look forward to my annual trip to Pelee with five friends. I'll be there from May 9-11. This mother bird gets to fly the coop for Mother's Day. :D
