Title: Rosetta McClain Gardens, Scarborough
Post by: Bluffs Birder on April 17, 2010, 12:43:24 AM
Hi all,

A couple of nice highlights from this past week at the Gardens.

On Sunday April 11th, we had a Red-bellied Woodpecker visit the park, it stayed just long enough for a couple of photos before it tookoff to the west.  This is the 6th species from the Woodpecker family to be recorded in the park this year.

On Tuesday April 13th, we had a Vesper Sparrow land about 20 feet down below us on the bluffs just to the right of where we were standing.  It came to rest, albeit briefly, on the top of some old dry tall grass.  I wasn't able to get any photos of it cuz I was too busy making sure it was a Vesper as I had never seen one before.  This is the 186th different bird species to be observed in and around Rosetta since we started counting about 6 years ago.

And today I saw 3 Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers together working the top of a tall Poplar tree by the bluffs edge and about 10 White-throated Sparrows feeding underneath the shrubs around the park.  Also heard, but not seen, was an Eastern Towhee (doing one note calls) in a neighbouring yard just outside the park.
